Monitoring the Blogosphere with Google Reader: a follow up to the SDMA presentation

March 25, 2008

When we gave our presentation on using Social Media for Direct Marketing at the Seattle SDMA in early March, Google was being fickle in ways that only Google can.

As a result, we weren’t able to demonstrate the complete process for using Google Reader to sign up for RSS feeds from blogs and search results. To make it up to you, we’ve put together the video below, which you can also view or download in high resolution QuickTime format.

One important thing to note is that for the Google Reader splash screen to prompt you correctly (you’ll see what I mean if you watch the video), you have to set Google Reader as your RSS reader of choice in your browser preferences.

In Firefox, you get there by choosing “Feeds” in the preferences window, and highlighting Google. It looks like this:

Firefox Prefernces

Once you’ve done that, you’re good to follow along with the video. Hope it helps, and feel free to ping me with any questions.
